Capitaine Toutain sighs. "Tactical, get my weapons prepped again." The frigate's main gun rotates to point at the Velucian ship. The missiles are again given targeting solutions.

The crewmen on deck ready their rifles. The crewmen on the autocannon step forward again and man the weapon. The frigate sails on, unfazed by the warning shots."

The Capitaine thinks out loud. "We have made our intentions clear. The ball is in their court now."

"Ha! So it begins" shouted the captain. The combat siren played through the ship. "Alright ensign, fire at their radar and navigation systems and prepare missile countermeasures. Afterwards, target their cannon, it should go down soon enough and corporal, radio in the frigates, we don't want to lose them."

The 130mm cannon swivels into position and fires twice at the relays by the ships mast.

(I'll let you decide the damage, keep in mind I'm aiming at your telecommunication relays - be fair)

The frigate rocks under the attack. "Status report!" The Capitaine barks. "Comms are down! Radars are damaged!"

"And fire control?" He damands. "Operational, albeit barely, sir."

"Return fire." He orders. The 25mm autocannon and the riflemen on deck rake the deck of the Velucian ship with bullets and cannon rounds. The 100mm main gun fires three shots at the Velucian ship's bridge. The frigate's pair of Exocet missiles launchers are opened.

4 sailors trying to get off the deck are mowed down by the fire. Out of the three shots fired, only one sits the bridge, causing minor damage and 1 casualty. 1 manages to pass between the bridge and comms relay, landing in the water with a splash and the other strays off course and manages to damages the control relays for 4 of the 8 Moskit SSM P-270 anti ship missiles, rendering them useless. However the other 4 begin to arm themselves, with coordinates already loaded into their targeting systems (ooc these won't be used unless combat goes poorly for me). The AK-630 (every gun on Russian ships seem to be AK's) missile defence guns begin to spin up and scan the area between the two ships for incoming objects. The main gun then fires another 4 shots at the Vendémiaires 100mm cannon in the aim of disabling it.

The ready ammunition detonates as the Velucian shells tear into the turret. The explosion trails down into the top of the ammunition magazine, setting it off. A large chunk from the upper hull on the bow is simply obliterated, leaving a massive hole. The windows to the bridge shatter, knocking many of the officers there to the ground and wounding them. Half of the riflemen on deck are killed by the explosion as well as 19 more men below decks.

The 25mm autocannon on the side of the ship redirects its fire to the Velucian ship's bridge. It is highly unlikely that the ship has armor capable of stopping the 25mm rounds from punching through to the insides of the ship.

The magazine detonation severed bridge control of one of the Exocet launchers. Capitaine Toutain drags himself off the deck, bleeding from several cuts after the bridge's windows shattered. "Report!" He shouts.

"Main gun is gone, and a large portion of the magazine detonated. We've lost connection to one of the missile launchers. Casualties both above and below decks. The magazine detonation rattled the entire ship badly enough to damage the engines. We are losing speed."

"Merde..." The Capitaine mumbles.

25mm shells rip through the Imperious's bridge, killing half the officers inside and wounding the rest. Captain Melkiv is badly wounded, with a long piece of metal scrap lodged in his left shoulder blade and although not initially lethal it partially inhibits his movement due to the pain. Sparks fly around the room, small fires breaking out on several of the command consoles. Connection had been lost to the rudder and turbines and the link between the console and the main gun has developed a glitch.

For a while there was a deathly silence between the boats

"****! Agh, ****!" the captain cursed as he felt the shrapnel in his shoulder "Ensign? You still with us?"
"Yes .... sir...."
"Good, now be a man and control the gun, aim at that cannon and rip it a new one. Could I trouble someone for a report?"
"We've lost manoeuvrability and engine power sir, around 12 dead and another dozen injured. The main cannon, although it appears to work, isn't properly functioning and we may have also lost telecommunications. Sir.... hang on, we've also lost contact with the silo relays. Sir"
"Hrmph... Get those shots off ensign, and make sure they're good ones, and then cease fire, I think we should try to talk about our problems."
The captain smiled to himself at that, reminding himself of his ex-wife, and began to focus on the Vendemiaires.

Meanwhile, the three frigates were getting closer to the fight.

"Sir! The Velucian ship loses way as we do!" An officer on the bridge shouts.

The Capitaine glances across to the destroyer, watching it slow. "Are we still losing speed?"

"Yes sir."

"I would not see both of our ships sitting helpless, watching each other. Helm! Turn hard, into the enemy ship! I would force a boarding." The Capitaine smiles, while his bridge crew looks on in shock. "Sir?" The helmsman inquires.

"You heard my orders. Carry them out. Quartermaster! Gather your riflemen, you will take their bridge." The Capitaine pauses for a moment after the Quartermaster's acknowledgement as the ship comes around towards the destroyer. "Launch one of the lifeboats." The tactical officer turns around.

"For what purpose sir?"

"When the lifeboats are launched, their emergency transponders activate automatically. I would have command know that we are in a predicament and hopefully send assistance." Sudden realization dawns on his face. "Radar! Where are those Velucian frigates!?"

Meanwhile, a lifeboat is simply dropped into the water, its emergency transponder immediately activating and sending out two signals. One on open frequencies to all ships in the area, another on a particular frequency broadcasting to Fleet Command.

A radar technician speaks up. "Closing fast sir! They have reduced the distance considerably."

On the Imperious
"Sir, they're not responding to our hails, they're still trying to get away and... erm... an empty life boat has dropped? What are your orders?"

The captain sighed. "I didn't want this to end with a ship on the ocean surface, but if it must be, fire a second set of shells at their propellers and do not stop until they are destroyed. I want that ship stopped. And where the hell are those frigates?!"

The frigates are almost within accurate firing range now and are closing at a much greater speed than the Vendemiaires can get away at.

The frigate isn't running away, as should have been obvious by it turning towards the Velucian ship. As its Capitaine had planned, the frigate plows into the side of the destroyer, as they took no action to avoid it.

The Capitaine smiles as his ship embeds itself in the side of the Velucian ship. "Quartermaster, it is up to you now."

The Quartermaster leads half a dozen naval enlisted men with rifles onto the deck of the destroyer.

*Calais, France*
Fleet Command in Calais scrambled after receiving a transponder signal from the frigate they lost contact with. Knowing what they frigate's mission was, they feared the worst. Two Alcyon-Class subs race from the port at flank speed, heading north. They are followed shortly by a trio of cruisers: a Duquesne-Class, a Spectre-Class, and a Fusée-Class.

(OOC - yeah, I realised that after posting, but I couldn't be bothered to change it, so now we have some close quarters fighting)

The Imperious rocked violently as the Vendemiaires burrowed itself into its hull.
The captain grabs the tannoy "All hands, we are being boarded, I repeat, we are being boarded. Take up positions and defend the ship, we cannot lose to them here! Fight like you were born to fight, fight like the Velucians you are!"

Melkiv then takes a key out of hs pocket and opens the gun cabinet held at the far end of the bridge, he takes out 2 AK-12s, throwing them to the nearest officers, and 3 MP-443 Grachs (pistols), keeps one and goes on to hand out the rest. He turn to the ensign at the gun and says "Whatever you do, don't stop firing, and if this becomes a losing battle, detonate the remaining Moskits. At least they'll go down with us."

The ensign gives a brief nod and turns back to the controls. Imperial naval code states that in the event of a boarding, a squad of seven must be defending the bridge at all costs. This incident is no exception, and seven Imperial Sentinels (if you read the peace treaty thread you'll know what these are but it doesn't really matter, they're guards) take up position inside the control room, facing the door and outside the windows. The crew get into place, locking down all corridors and stairways and using makeshift cover for protection.

The three frigate have now entered the fight and have begun to surround the Francophonian ship, though making sure to stay out of the line of sight of the 25mm cannon. They are preparing to fire.

The three frigates find the 25mm autocannon on the other side of the Vendémiaires is just as happy to fire on them as the other one.

The Quartermaster leads his makeshift assault squad up the superstructure towards the bridge. Before leaving the Vendémiaires, he had retrieved flak vests for himself and his six men. They carry F3A1 rifles, standard issue in the Alliance military. The Quartermaster pulls a frag grenade off of his flak vest, one of only three kept in the ship's small arms locker in case of emergencies. Two of his men do the same with the other two. After a silent countdown from three, they pull the pins in unison and toss three frag grenades onto the bridge through holes made by the autocannon earlier. The assault squad ducks down to take cover from the coming explosion.

Capitaine Toutain takes to the bridge controls on Vendémiaires with a large chunk of shrapnel, destroying them beyond repair. He leads the remaining 57 crewmen, other than the assault squad and the men manning the autocannons, to the engineering spaces of the ship to holdout there. Nine of them, including the Capitaine, carry Glock 22s, the standard sidearm of the Alliance military.

Guts and viscera are smeared across the inner walls of the bridge. The grenades were extremely effective, killing 7 of the ten on the bridge. Miraculously, Captain Melkiv and two of the sentinels survived the blast, though with serious injuries, mainly due to the fact that they at the opposite side of the room. And as Francophonian troops rushed into the bridge he knew that there was no escape for him or his crew, so he ran to the missile control computer , while the two remaining guards drew the enemy fire, and activated the manual launch sequence.

Both ships rocked tremendously as the rocket fired upwards, though trapped by the silo door, and then the device detonated. The force was so strong, the Velucian frigates almost capsized from the severity of the waves caused...

(OOC: Fascinating outcome.)

The explosion, trapped within the Velucian ship, doesn't destroy the Alliance frigate. However, it begins to sink. The engineering spaces are quickly abandoned as they fill with water. The Capitaine leads his crewmen to the last remaining lifeboat, launching it with his crew aboard. As the lifeboat drift from the doomed warship, the Capitaine feels sadness, for the ship that was his charge is sinking beneath the waves. He is, however, justifiably proud of trading his relatively small frigate for a far more powerful destroyer. His pride extends to his crew, as they fought well.

(I knew you'd do that  :D)
Unfortunately for the survivors of the battle, the three frigates, which have recovered from the blast, are not quite as proud of the capitaine. Their main guns are aimed directly at the lifeboats, filled with m Francophonians.

The captain of the Larket, the biggest of the three, speaks on the outward speakers.
"This may sound rather cliché, but that ship was one week away from retirement. Faulty engineering you see. I suppose that was a better way to go. However! We're here today to talk about you. I feel like your in quite the predicament." The captain gives a sly grin.

"According to reports given to us from the mainland, our UAVs have picked up three rather large ships heading in this direction, positioned just above Scandinavia (I can't remember which country is on the top half, Denmark?). It'll be a while before they get here, so what's your next move?"
