Title: Surveillance
Post by: Francophone Alliance on January 16, 2016, 09:43:07 pm
A Floréal-Class Frigate, a ship designed for surveillance and/or coastal protection recently put into service with the Alliance Navy, puts to sea from its port in Northern France. It's current course will take it straight through the North Sea and along the coast of Norway.

The ship is relatively small for a warship, and sighting it on radar will reveal what appears to be a large fishing boat or something of that nature. It would take direct visual examination to make out that it is, in fact, a warship and not a civilian craft.

The original frigate is near the northern coast of Norway. It has begun proceeding to the east, through the Barents Sea.

A second Floréal-Class Frigate exits port in French Guiana, making its way south along the Brazilian coast line. After a short amount of time, it activates its surveillance equipment. Radio messages are intercepted, land based radar locations are triangulated, ship positions are charted, etc.

The original frigate, having received new orders, begins returning to its home port.

The other continues its task along the Brazilian coast line.

A sailor aboard the Alentejo-class cruiser HMS Minho, which is on its regular patrol, spots the strange vessel. After notifying the watch commander the Minho begins hailing the vessel.

The Captain of the frigate orders a course change, taking the frigate towards international waters. After the new course is set, he answers the cruiser's hails by opening a channel. He says nothing.

A Hobart Class Destroyer notices the ship, and starts sailing towards it, weapons at the ready.

The  Minho will hold its position, observing the unidentified vessel and asking it to identify itself. If it makes no aggressive actions, however, Minho will not arm weapons.

The Minho's requests are unanswered as the unmarked ship sails into international waters, heading East.

The Imperious, a Sovremennyy-class destroyer, gains a visually of an unidentifiable vessel flying Francophone colours. The Imperious moves to intercept the vessel while attempting to hail it's commander, while beginning to train its main cannon at its bridge.

A large 125m long whale erupts from the ocean about a click from the Francophone Alliance's Ship. Graciously and miraculously, it begins to fly away to the heavens.

The frigate's fire control systems go active and paint the Imperious with fire control and tracking radars. Two Exocet missiles are continually fed updated firing solutions on the ship. The frigate's 100mm gun rotates, pointing at the Imperious.

The commander responds to Imperious's hails. "This is Capitaine Toutain of the frigate Vendémiaire. State your intentions."

[I fully intend to ignore the stupid whale thing.]

[Y'know, when that thing dies its gonna be one hell of an explosion- whale logic]

The Imperious' commander replies "I believe that question is more relevant to you sir, your heading towards our waters. We'd simply like to know your intended purpose and destination."

The Imperial ship then relays launch instructions to the Moskit SSM P-270 anti-ship missiles which are armed for launch. The ship also spins up the anti - air 30 mm AK-630 Gatling guns in the case of enemy launch.

"I am sailing my ship through international waters towards a destination which is also in international waters. I was not aware such completely legal actions warranted threatening my ship and the lives of my crew." Capitaine Toutain replies indignantly.

The frigate's single Kashtan CIWS turret is spun up and brought around towards the Imperious, ready to defend the ship.

"You say what your doing is perfectly legal yes? On the surface I suppose it is. However, what would be your purpose in those international waters? I have a feeling that your up to no good. Captain"

Meanwhile, the ships stored KA-27 helicopter takes off towards the mainland.

"I am not required to share my orders with you, nor am I inclined to. Your feelings as to my intentions are duly noted. I will relay your insult to my Admiral, who will no doubt, relay it to the President." Capitaine Toutain replies.

"Very well. Though I'm sure, since what your doing is nice and legal, you won't mind a little company on your trip. What am I saying, of course you won't mind."

The Imperious turns to head the same direction as the Vendémiaire and then waits for it to catch up before matching its speed, slightly behind.
Title: Re: Surveillance
Post by: Francophone Alliance on January 19, 2016, 05:04:14 pm
Capitaine Toutain seethes. Unable to challenge the larger warship, he simply continues sailing to the East. Upon reaching Velucian waters, the frigate slows to 10 knots and sails along the Velucian coastline, remaining a kilometer into international waters at all times. The frigate, unable to safely use its more powerful equipment, sets to its now more difficult task. It tracks ships and triangulates radar locations based on their own radar transmissions. It would be impossible for the Velucian destroyer to see these actions as there would be no outward change in the frigate to signal the actions taking place.

*On the bridge of the Imperious

"They're up to something." stated Captain Melkiv
"Pardon sir."
"I said they're up to something. What could be the reason for their presence here? I mean, they've been travelling up near our coast for quite a while now but I don't see them crossing the Pacific; not one ship. I want every piece of scanning equipment available pointed at that ship. And I don't need to remind you all that we don't need another diplomatic incident with a major power, so no lethal force unless provoked. Got that?"

While the two ships are moving slowly onward, they are both being observed by the mainland, who're ready to launch a small fleet if necessary.
Title: Re: Surveillance
Post by: Francophone Alliance on January 19, 2016, 05:38:12 pm
The frigate sails on. It detects and plots the locations of powerful land based radars. It also quite easily picks out the small Velucian fleet preparing at the mainland by their radar signatures. While unable to tell class or size of ships, the frigate easily separates the various signals and is able to discern the number of ships and their locations. [I would like to know how many ships are in this small fleet since I have established that I am able to discern such things.]

Capitaine Toutain grows worried. "Quartermaster, I don't trust our new Velucian shadow. I would see the crew armed. Hand out rifles to those qualified, sidearms to the remainder."

The Quartermaster salutes. "Oui Capitaine." He hurries from the bridge to the ship's small arms locker. He distributes rifles to a dozen men and stations them on the deck. He issues sidearms to the remaining members of the crew and sets them back to their normal tasks.

The newly armed sentries stand on deck, rifles held low, watching the Velucian ship. The Quartermaster also orders the ship's autocannons prepped. a pair of crewman moves to each and loads it, preparing it for action. After the autocannons are prepared, the crewman manning them step back away from them, not wanting to accidentally cause an incident.

Ooc( I like to add a little spice to encounters, the threat of a possible war between nations is always a fun idea)

The Imperial Naval Guard dispatched 3 frigates to support the Imperious in deterring the Vendémiaire away from the ocean border.

On the Imperious, captain Melkiv begins to lose his patience. "ARGH!" yelled Melkiv as he throws a pair of binoculars at the wall in frustration "what the hell are they doing! They've been here far too long now, I'm not waiting for support. Ensign, fire a warning shot at the fore of the ship and prepare the men for combat. If he doesn't move we'll make him!"

The Imperious's 130mm AK-130 forward gun turn a few degrees of the Vendémiaires front and fires three consecutive shots then waits for it to react

Capitaine Toutain sighs. "Tactical, get my weapons prepped again." The frigate's main gun rotates to point at the Velucian ship. The missiles are again given targeting solutions.

The crewmen on deck ready their rifles. The crewmen on the autocannon step forward again and man the weapon. The frigate sails on, unfazed by the warning shots."

The Capitaine thinks out loud. "We have made our intentions clear. The ball is in their court now."
Title: Re: Surveillance

"Ha! So it begins" shouted the captain. The combat siren played through the ship. "Alright ensign, fire at their radar and navigation systems and prepare missile countermeasures. Afterwards, target their cannon, it should go down soon enough and corporal, radio in the frigates, we don't want to lose them."

The 130mm cannon swivels into position and fires twice at the relays by the ships mast.

(I'll let you decide the damage, keep in mind I'm aiming at your telecommunication relays - be fair)
Title: Re: Surveillance

The frigate rocks under the attack. "Status report!" The Capitaine barks. "Comms are down! Radars are damaged!"

"And fire control?" He damands. "Operational, albeit barely, sir."

"Return fire." He orders. The 25mm autocannon and the riflemen on deck rake the deck of the Velucian ship with bullets and cannon rounds. The 100mm main gun fires three shots at the Velucian ship's bridge. The frigate's pair of Exocet missiles launchers are opened.
Title: Re: Surveillance
Post by: ThatBrit2016 on January 20, 2016, 11:28:54 am
4 sailors trying to get off the deck are mowed down by the fire. Out of the three shots fired, only one sits the bridge, causing minor damage and 1 casualty. 1 manages to pass between the bridge and comms relay, landing in the water with a splash and the other strays off course and manages to damages the control relays for 4 of the 8 Moskit SSM P-270 anti ship missiles, rendering them useless. However the other 4 begin to arm themselves, with coordinates already loaded into their targeting systems (ooc these won't be used unless combat goes poorly for me). The AK-630 (every gun on Russian ships seem to be AK's) missile defence guns begin to spin up and scan the area between the two ships for incoming objects. The main gun then fires another 4 shots at the Vendémiaires 100mm cannon in the aim of disabling it.

The ready ammunition detonates as the Velucian shells tear into the turret. The explosion trails down into the top of the ammunition magazine, setting it off. A large chunk from the upper hull on the bow is simply obliterated, leaving a massive hole. The windows to the bridge shatter, knocking many of the officers there to the ground and wounding them. Half of the riflemen on deck are killed by the explosion as well as 19 more men below decks.

The 25mm autocannon on the side of the ship redirects its fire to the Velucian ship's bridge. It is highly unlikely that the ship has armor capable of stopping the 25mm rounds from punching through to the insides of the ship.

The magazine detonation severed bridge control of one of the Exocet launchers. Capitaine Toutain drags himself off the deck, bleeding from several cuts after the bridge's windows shattered. "Report!" He shouts.

"Main gun is gone, and a large portion of the magazine detonated. We've lost connection to one of the missile launchers. Casualties both above and below decks. The magazine detonation rattled the entire ship badly enough to damage the engines. We are losing speed."

"Merde..." The Capitaine mumbles.

25mm shells rip through the Imperious's bridge, killing half the officers inside and wounding the rest. Captain Melkiv is badly wounded, with a long piece of metal scrap lodged in his left shoulder blade and although not initially lethal it partially inhibits his movement due to the pain. Sparks fly around the room, small fires breaking out on several of the command consoles. Connection had been lost to the rudder and turbines and the link between the console and the main gun has developed a glitch.

For a while there was a deathly silence between the boats

"****! Agh, ****!" the captain cursed as he felt the shrapnel in his shoulder "Ensign? You still with us?"
"Yes .... sir...."
"Good, now be a man and control the gun, aim at that cannon and rip it a new one. Could I trouble someone for a report?"
"We've lost manoeuvrability and engine power sir, around 12 dead and another dozen injured. The main cannon, although it appears to work, isn't properly functioning and we may have also lost telecommunications. Sir.... hang on, we've also lost contact with the silo relays. Sir"
"Hrmph... Get those shots off ensign, and make sure they're good ones, and then cease fire, I think we should try to talk about our problems."
The captain smiled to himself at that, reminding himself of his ex-wife, and began to focus on the Vendemiaires.

Meanwhile, the three frigates were getting closer to the fight.

"Sir! The Velucian ship loses way as we do!" An officer on the bridge shouts.

The Capitaine glances across to the destroyer, watching it slow. "Are we still losing speed?"

"Yes sir."

"I would not see both of our ships sitting helpless, watching each other. Helm! Turn hard, into the enemy ship! I would force a boarding." The Capitaine smiles, while his bridge crew looks on in shock. "Sir?" The helmsman inquires.

"You heard my orders. Carry them out. Quartermaster! Gather your riflemen, you will take their bridge." The Capitaine pauses for a moment after the Quartermaster's acknowledgement as the ship comes around towards the destroyer. "Launch one of the lifeboats." The tactical officer turns around.

"For what purpose sir?"

"When the lifeboats are launched, their emergency transponders activate automatically. I would have command know that we are in a predicament and hopefully send assistance." Sudden realization dawns on his face. "Radar! Where are those Velucian frigates!?"

Meanwhile, a lifeboat is simply dropped into the water, its emergency transponder immediately activating and sending out two signals. One on open frequencies to all ships in the area, another on a particular frequency broadcasting to Fleet Command.

A radar technician speaks up. "Closing fast sir! They have reduced the distance considerably."

On the Imperious
"Sir, they're not responding to our hails, they're still trying to get away and... erm... an empty life boat has dropped? What are your orders?"

The captain sighed. "I didn't want this to end with a ship on the ocean surface, but if it must be, fire a second set of shells at their propellers and do not stop until they are destroyed. I want that ship stopped. And where the hell are those frigates?!"

The frigates are almost within accurate firing range now and are closing at a much greater speed than the Vendemiaires can get away at.

The frigate isn't running away, as should have been obvious by it turning towards the Velucian ship. As its Capitaine had planned, the frigate plows into the side of the destroyer, as they took no action to avoid it.

The Capitaine smiles as his ship embeds itself in the side of the Velucian ship. "Quartermaster, it is up to you now."

The Quartermaster leads half a dozen naval enlisted men with rifles onto the deck of the destroyer.

*Calais, France*
Fleet Command in Calais scrambled after receiving a transponder signal from the frigate they lost contact with. Knowing what they frigate's mission was, they feared the worst. Two Alcyon-Class subs race from the port at flank speed, heading north. They are followed shortly by a trio of cruisers: a Duquesne-Class, a Spectre-Class, and a Fusée-Class.

(OOC - yeah, I realised that after posting, but I couldn't be bothered to change it, so now we have some close quarters fighting)

The Imperious rocked violently as the Vendemiaires burrowed itself into its hull.
The captain grabs the tannoy "All hands, we are being boarded, I repeat, we are being boarded. Take up positions and defend the ship, we cannot lose to them here! Fight like you were born to fight, fight like the Velucians you are!"

Melkiv then takes a key out of hs pocket and opens the gun cabinet held at the far end of the bridge, he takes out 2 AK-12s, throwing them to the nearest officers, and 3 MP-443 Grachs (pistols), keeps one and goes on to hand out the rest. He turn to the ensign at the gun and says "Whatever you do, don't stop firing, and if this becomes a losing battle, detonate the remaining Moskits. At least they'll go down with us."

The ensign gives a brief nod and turns back to the controls. Imperial naval code states that in the event of a boarding, a squad of seven must be defending the bridge at all costs. This incident is no exception, and seven Imperial Sentinels (if you read the peace treaty thread you'll know what these are but it doesn't really matter, they're guards) take up position inside the control room, facing the door and outside the windows. The crew get into place, locking down all corridors and stairways and using makeshift cover for protection.

The three frigate have now entered the fight and have begun to surround the Francophonian ship, though making sure to stay out of the line of sight of the 25mm cannon. They are preparing to fire.
Title: Re: Surveillance
Post by: Francophone Alliance on January 20, 2016, 03:57:55 pm
The three frigates find the 25mm autocannon on the other side of the Vendémiaires is just as happy to fire on them as the other one.

The Quartermaster leads his makeshift assault squad up the superstructure towards the bridge. Before leaving the Vendémiaires, he had retrieved flak vests for himself and his six men. They carry F3A1 rifles, standard issue in the Alliance military. The Quartermaster pulls a frag grenade off of his flak vest, one of only three kept in the ship's small arms locker in case of emergencies. Two of his men do the same with the other two. After a silent countdown from three, they pull the pins in unison and toss three frag grenades onto the bridge through holes made by the autocannon earlier. The assault squad ducks down to take cover from the coming explosion.

Capitaine Toutain takes to the bridge controls on Vendémiaires with a large chunk of shrapnel, destroying them beyond repair. He leads the remaining 57 crewmen, other than the assault squad and the men manning the autocannons, to the engineering spaces of the ship to holdout there. Nine of them, including the Capitaine, carry Glock 22s, the standard sidearm of the Alliance military.

Guts and viscera are smeared across the inner walls of the bridge. The grenades were extremely effective, killing 7 of the ten on the bridge. Miraculously, Captain Melkiv and two of the sentinels survived the blast, though with serious injuries, mainly due to the fact that they at the opposite side of the room. And as Francophonian troops rushed into the bridge he knew that there was no escape for him or his crew, so he ran to the missile control computer , while the two remaining guards drew the enemy fire, and activated the manual launch sequence.

Both ships rocked tremendously as the rocket fired upwards, though trapped by the silo door, and then the device detonated. The force was so strong, the Velucian frigates almost capsized from the severity of the waves caused...

(OOC: Fascinating outcome.)

The explosion, trapped within the Velucian ship, doesn't destroy the Alliance frigate. However, it begins to sink. The engineering spaces are quickly abandoned as they fill with water. The Capitaine leads his crewmen to the last remaining lifeboat, launching it with his crew aboard. As the lifeboat drift from the doomed warship, the Capitaine feels sadness, for the ship that was his charge is sinking beneath the waves. He is, however, justifiably proud of trading his relatively small frigate for a far more powerful destroyer. His pride extends to his crew, as they fought well.

Unfortunately for the survivors of the battle, the three frigates, which have recovered from the blast, are not quite as proud of the capitaine. Their main guns are aimed directly at the lifeboats, filled with m Francophonians.

The captain of the Larket, the biggest of the three, speaks on the outward speakers.
"This may sound rather cliché, but that ship was one week away from retirement. Faulty engineering you see. I suppose that was a better way to go. However! We're here today to talk about you. I feel like your in quite the predicament." The captain gives a sly grin.

"According to reports given to us from the mainland, our UAVs have picked up three rather large ships heading in this direction, positioned just above Scandinavia (I can't remember which country is on the top half, Denmark?). It'll be a while before they get here, so what's your next move?"

The Capitaine speaks to his men. "Ha! It worked! Do you hear that men? Help is on the way!"

He replies to the Captain of the Larket the only way he can. He shouts. "I would wait, Velucian." He spits the word, as if it were poison. "We sit at your mercy, but I will not beg. Do what you will with us." His men nod numbly in support.

(I would prefer Francs, if you don't mind.)

(I figured the subs would be quicker, but they would have been seen)

"Well," chuckled the captain "I'm not one for procrastination. I hope you can swim." One of the ships Palash CIWS's spins up and opens fire in the lifeboat. It tears apart the thin hull and it begins to sink quickly. 7 sailors were caught in that barrage.

"Oooh, think I'm insulted by the threats of a dead man? Do you know how cold that water is? About 4 degrees. How quick will it be before hypothermia sets in, hmm, then frostbite? I'd say 10 minutes for the hypothermia, 20 for the frostbite, and please, hold on for a miricle. It makes this more fun. No ship could get from where your help is now to where we are in under 30 minutes, so I think this is it." The captain laughs harshly.

(Ooc - doesn't matter)

Toutaine laughs from the water. "Yes, laugh from your ship at us. Your mistreatment of us will result in nothing nut destruction. The three ships you describe are likely cruisers. One alone is far more powerful than your three frigates could ever hope to be. I will happily sit here and die, so that you may speed along your own destruction."

"Aye!" His crew shouts next to him, many of them laughing along. Within minutes, the laughing dies down as the cold sets in.

The Palash CIWS spins up again and begins to pick off the sailors huddled together. Another 28 are killed by this, leaving 22 left, not including the capitaine.

"Now beg for your lives!" Shouts the captain as he moves into the observation deck, pistol in hand.

[You wouldn't know about this in RP....]

[yes I would, I have an AWACS and jets in the area. Lifeboats give off a signal, and we found it interesting that your ship fired just before one of the signals went off line, the SU-34's are going to take a closer look, but should you not fire, we won't either]

[an AWACS wouldn't detect ppl getting fired at. I have no ships there.]

He sighed. "Every time you insult me, I'm going to kill another ten" the Palash picks off another 10 with a barrage of bullets. 12 remaining.

"Capitaine, how are you, I forgot to ask, getting a little chilly?"
By now hypothermia would be setting in

The Alliance sailors shiver and float in the water, not ale to do much else.

After a few moments, Capitaine Toutain swallows his pride and yells up. "I would surrender myself and my men, Captain. You have beaten us. Enough have been lost to my pride. Please, fish us from the water."

The Alliance sailors look anywhere but at their Capitaine. They had served under him for a long time, and the significance of his surrender was not lost on them.

Belkan SU-34's arrive at the site of the distress call from the lifeboats, they can see a Velucian ship a bit away. They state they will not attack, if the ship does not fire at them either.

Belkan SU-34's arrive at the site of the distress call from the lifeboats, they can see a Velucian ship a bit away. They state they will not attack, if the ship does not fire at them either.

The frigates acknowledged this and refrain from attacking the planes.

Larket thinks for a moment, as if contemplating on whether to allow the surrender, but concedes to his better judgement and he calms down from his apparent blood lust.

"Very well Capitaine, I accept your surrender. I can see how difficult that was and so, against my personal desires, I will bring you aboard our vessel."

The captain returns to the bridge and moments later, 4 dingys drop into the water, each with 3 Imperial guards present (ooc - In case you try a takeover) and speed towards the shivering mass of men. Each picks up three men and Toutain gets on the fourth. When they reach the command frigate, they can see that it's called the Vesimire. When they board the Vesimire, they are taken to the bridge under armed guard and are met by Captain Larket

"Thank you Captain." Toutain ventures after he is taken to the bridge. "My men do not deserve to die to my own stubbornness."

Toutain stands with his men, the group of them shivering from the cold water.

*Reinforcements*
The Tu-160s begin crossing the Barents Sea, almost having caught up to the ships. The cruisers enter the Kara Sea. The subs near the edge of the Kara Sea, getting closer to the last known position of the Alliance frigate.

"Now then Capitaine, for your and your men's own security upon this vessel, I request one thing. An Imperial surveillance aircraft had picked up 2 TU-160s crossing the Barrents sea. I would like you to establish communication with these aircraft, and your ships when they get into telecommunication range, and tell them to turn back immediately, or so help me, I will make you watch while I personally disembowel each individual surviving crew member from your ship." The Captain had another look of violence in his eye when he stated that threat, with the Capitaine knowing full well that he would go through with it.

The three frigates, their presence no longer needed, began to turn towards the shoreline.

The Capitaine snorts. "I would not let my men die to my pride alone, but I would happily sacrifice their lives and mine if it will mean an animal like you getting what he deserves."

He spits at the Captain's feet. "I will not speak to them, instead, my men and I will share a front row seat to your death. If you want my recommendation, surrender. They will treat you far better than you treat us." The Capitaine stairs in disgust at the Velucian Captain. His men stand behind him at stiff attention, attempting not to shiver.
